Pantry Staples

Welcome officially to my blog! This is the first post EVER and so it was only right that we start with the building blocks that go into making masterpiece recipes.

My recipes focus on sweeteners that are naturally occurring in their raw or most basic forms. Those sweeteners include real Maple SyrupMedjool and Noor DatesHoneyApple Concentrate or Apple Sugar*, and fruits!

MAPLE SYRUP

When purchasing maple syrup, make sure to look at the ingredients. It should only list “Pure Maple Syrup” as the ONLY ingredient. I personally like the quality and volume available at bulk stores, such as Costco. You will want to make sure that you have enough on hand to properly account for your needs. Although significantly more expensive than sugar ounce per ounce, it is drastically better for you and lasts you a decent amount of time.

DATES

Both Medjool and Noor Dates are used in my recipes and contain many quality benefits, such as fiber, antioxidants, and helpful phytohormones. They are used whole, chopped, pulverized, and more. They may look strange, but I promise you: you are going to love them! Buy these soft or lightly dried if possible. Many stores sell them in large bag quantities or in substantially filled containers. When preparing dates, just make sure to remove the seeds!

HONEY

Honey is a familiar ingredient that should not be too difficult to find. In general, I prefer using Raw Honey collected from the area in which you live. There are amazing allergy benefits by using local honey as well as the fact that you are guaranteed good quality as it is fresh and usually not processed like store honey. However, any honey is truly fine as long as it is authentic, pure honey.

*APPLE CONCENTRATE/APPLE SUGAR

Apple sugar is essentially concentrated apples. You CAN make your own, but for ease, you can buy some. Select Walmart stores carry this, just check online to see if it is available in your local or surrounding Walmart locations. I don’t use this as often as my other sweeteners, but I like having the option when needed for some stellar recipes!

FRUIT

Fresh fruit, mixed fruit apple sauces (make sure there isn’t added sugar), fruit juice and concentrates….basically all the fruit!
